| They have reached the Pit Stop |
[May. 15th, 2006|09:56 am] |
The trio arrived last night after a thousand miles driven. I'll let The Boy fill you in on the details but here are some of the highlights:
1) Cannonball Run Taxi Driver 2) The Majestic IHOP 3) Kia SUV, ho! 4) The Long and Winding Road (did I mention long?) |

| The Boy's version of The Amazing Race |
[May. 12th, 2006|11:45 am] |
|
The Boy flew down to Tucson this morning to pick up Gramps and drive him back to Washington. They're going to try to drive straight through...we'll see how that goes. They're currently filling up the gas tank, and then they're on the road. The Boy, Gramps, and Punky (the toothless, cranky, toy Chihuahua). Good times. |

As I went up to the 4th floor to grab some coffee (since that's where the good coffee is) I walked past some conference rooms in the middle of reshuffling for the next meeting. I grabbed some coffee and then road the elevator with more people scurrying to their next meetings. It was passing period at Expedia. |

| Start off your birthday right! |
[Dec. 13th, 2005|02:42 pm] |
Today is my birthday (the big 2-5) and as I look back on my thoughts of 25, I always thought that that would be when I would truly become an adult. And I found out this morning I get to deal with my first significant adult issue: fraudulent charges on my credit card. Luckily *knock on wood* there has only been a total of $109.75 charged to my card fraudulently and I was able to call the company that changed me and find three names that were attached to three of the five purchases (all to the same credit report website), file a police report, cancel the card, and get a new card reissued before 8am. Not too shabby. The other thing that's lucky is that it's only a credit card and not my debit card or anything else attached to our checking and savings accounts. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that it's all smooth sailing through the rest of this.
On a brighter note, my day since 8am has been great! My boss brought in a cheesecake for my birthday and I got the cutest snowman ornament from my officemate. I still have faith in 25 yet. :o) |

| Mama Mia! Review |
[Dec. 12th, 2005|10:49 am] |
The Boy and I saw Mama Mia! last night. It was great! I've never been to a musical that is just so fun! All I knew about the play going into it was that is had a score of ABBA songs and there was a wedding. I'm not the biggest ABBA fan, but I know a few of their songs and find them retro-enjoyable. Mama Mia! does a great job of really using the music to tell the story. I was afraid that it would just be a cheesy 70s disco, but instead it's a great story of reuniting with old friends with much humor. And the Boy liked it, too!
If you're looking for just a good time, and Mama Mia! comes to town, I would whole-heartily recommend it.
Next weekend, The Sound of Music! (I love the theater!) |

| Framing my life |
[Aug. 1st, 2005|01:58 pm] |
I hate Paris Hilton, but I got new glasses yesterday that, I must say, are hot! They're pretty rectangular, with thin red plastic around the lenses and what looks like brushed pewter for the bows. I'm very cute. :) Still only need them for read, which is nice, too. It's a good thing I got them too, because I'm actually taking time to read again. Current author of extreme enjoyment: Jennifer Crusie. She can highly recommend from a friend and she's fun read. I'm on my second book of hers and both, thus far, have been very well written, despite the fact that she should fire her editor and hire me. I've never seen someone errors in a published book! St. Martins Press, not a shabby publisher, but you wouldn't know it from the first book of hers I read.
Now, let's see, I'm on top of things in terms of reading, eating well, and working house stuff. (Sure, there's always room for improvement, but all in all, not too bad.) Now I just need to get on the ball with contacting my friend (I miss you, Megan!!!) and working out (once a week is NOT enough). I really need to figure out how to balance my life, rather than having a few things be my focus for a month, and them put them on the back burner to something else for two.
On the family front, my mom started Chemo again on Friday and is feeling well. One down, five to go.
On Sunday, the twins appeared in a taping for a commercial for My Gym (a kids gyms in the midwest). I guess they're going to make a 30 second commercial out of the footage and we'll cross our fingers that you'll get to see the twins! I guess the commercials will be aired on Disney Channel and Cartoon Network in Omaha, as well as a few others. The fam's going to try and tape it for The Boy and I so we can see their publicly displayed cuteness. They are a couple of little peanuts. Tessa is very much a red-head like her mom, and is having fun crawling everywhere and standing up on her own (as long as she has something to hold onto). Mr. Isaac looks like he's going to be a blondie and has just begun giving crawling a chance, well. . . kind of. I guess he's using his elbows instead of his hands, but hey, he's mobile! In Sept, they'll be a year old, but we don't get to see them again until Nov, how sad. As long as my fam keeps taking lots of pics, it's all good. :) |

| While I'm waiting, I might as well blog. |
[May. 24th, 2005|01:37 pm] |
It's been a while but I guess that means I've been doing stuff, so that's good. I really like my job at Expedia. It's going pretty well and I think they like me, so that's always good. Now if we could just do something about construction on 405 durning the morning commute, everything thing would be great. :oP
The Boy and I where quite busy this weekend. Saw Return of the Sith at 9am on Sat, had out housewarming party at 2pm (which lasted till 2am), sang at church at 9:30am on Sunday and went to the U-dist street fair Sunday afternoon. A wonderful weekend I must say! :) Not to mention, before our party we got a ton more stuff unpacked/trashed, finished the floor in the kitchen, and cleaned. And other than needing to vacuum again, our house stayed unbelievably clean. I was very impressed!
And now this coming weekend we are taking our respective vacations for Memorial day. (The Boy's going to AZ to visit his gramps and I'm going back to NE to see the twins/the fam.) Since he can take off more days than I can, it just made sense.
Well, Outlook is saying it's time for a meeting! |

| The Wild and Wacky World of Employment |
[Mar. 30th, 2005|07:40 am] |
|
I've been recruited! S&T gave me a call at the end of last week to see if I was interested in a 9 month contract with Expedia-dot-coooooom as an admin to the editor of the hotel info posted online. So, I interviewed yesterday, and now I start on Monday! Could this move any faster, honestly?!? So, I feel bad that I'm leaving my current employer in the lurch, but I've talked it over with my boss and she's just happy for me, so it's cool. So, Monday I will begin working in Factoria! Crazy! |
|
|
| Things are starting to settle down |
[Feb. 21st, 2005|03:01 pm] |
So much can happen in a month! The Boy and I have moved into our house. We've been in for a week now and it's starting to feel like home. We still haven't met our neighbors, but they have started waving at us as we drive by, so that's cool. We have a new couch and love-seat as well as some IKEA bookcases and CD/DVD racks, so I had fun putting them together last weekend. Levitz actually found our house, which I'm impressed by given all the troubles I've heard of people having with them. AND they delivered the right stuff, too!
Along with the new house, I have a new job! My contract at MS ended on Friday (2/11), I had an interview the following Monday where they offered me the job and I started last Tuesday (2/15). It was nice to be unemployed for a weekend. . . Now I am working in the Kelly Services office and their Hiring Coordinator. It's going really well. I'm liking it even more than I thought I would! I am working for the MS group and I am interviewing potential contractors and getting them signed-up with Kelly Services. It's really fun being on the other side of the interview. :) Oh, and did I mention that I'm getting paid more than I was at MS??? I'm getting paid more than I was a MS. Not too shabby.
Woot! I just heard from The Boy and our DSL is set up and ready to go (About time!! I never realized how long a week could feel when you dont have the internet.) |

| Note to self. . . |
[Feb. 7th, 2005|05:42 pm] |
|
Do not buy a house around the holidays; it's just added stress that you don't really need. Also, even if you can afford to only have one of you working to pay the mortgage payment, try to make sure you are both in permanent, full-time jobs; if one of you isn't, there is once again added stress that you don't really need. Next, you may want to consider painting with lighter colors, they are easier to apply as well as easier to remove from unwanted areas. However, scrubbing the paint out of the carpet with Goof Off with all of your might is an excellent stress reliever. So, if you do not take note of the first two suggestions: only paint in dark colors. |

| Woot Yellow! |
[Jan. 26th, 2005|12:42 pm] |
The den is officially yellow, I'm very pleased. Sure it took and extra trip to Home Depot to make it yellow instead of a hue slightly off from white, it is now yellow. I painted it after my interview at Premera (more about that in a bit) and it turned out pretty well. I need to go back to do some touch ups tonight, perhaps a second coat, but nothing too bad. The office is now blue. A very nice blue I might add. Oddly similar to that of the blue painters tape we bought, but not as bright, a bit darker, but oddly close. We had a friend come over and he and The Boy worked on that room while I worked on the den. Looks good. I wouldn't look at the carpet too closely if I were you, but the walls look great. :) Still have some touch-ups to do in there and then we're through. 2 more rooms to go (for this phase).
As for Premera, I had an interview for an admin asst position to the director of facilities. Either the interview went very well or very badly, I'm still on sure yet. I know I answered the touchy-feely questions well. "How do you work with people? What about personality conflict?" blah blah blah But I'm not sure if the examples of projects I've worked on was what he was looking for. I'm used to being asked follow-up questions, trying to get at something specific, and there was almost none of that. Did I answer the questions right the first time? Were they looking at HOW I answered the question instead of the content? Who knows. Not to mention that this was the most stone faced guy I've ever met. In a 1 hour interview, he only smiled twice. He seemed very pleasant, he just had the best poker face I've ever seen! But he was paying attention and did bring up somethings I had mentioned in the beginning later in the interview, but no digging questions. I feel like either he thought I was out of my mind thinking I could handle this position (b/c it is quite a few steps up from where I am now) or he just looks for different things then I'm used to interviewers looking for (and I've worked with a lot of interviewers, having worked at a recruiting firm). I get to call him back on Friday to see if I get a second interview, so we'll see. |

| Time Fly's When You're Employed |
[Jan. 13th, 2005|03:52 pm] |
So, my year at MS is drawing into it's final weeks. I have 4 weeks left on my contract before I have to take my mandatory 100 day break in service. So now it's back to the job hunt. I've been very lucky, in that I've gotten a lot of help from my friends and have already had only phone interview which went very well. So we'll see.
But then there's the big dilemma. Do I find a permanent job or do I take another temp job and come back for another year in this role (since I have been invited back)? I've asked for a raise for when/if I come back, so when I hear back from that, a lot of things my be cleared up, but who know. Yay the stress of insuring income when you have an new mortgage to pay. :oP |

| We're almost in a house and my nephew is a genius! |
[Jan. 10th, 2005|11:42 am] |
The Boy and I filled out the closing paperwork on Saturday for the house, and everything looks in order, so we'll be getting the keys on Friday. Score! And then it snowed on Sunday so The Boy and I just hung out and did nothing all day. It was a great weekend.
I also found out this weekend that, at 3.5 months old, my nephew has said his first word. He is able to say Hi. Clear as a bell, Hi. He's a genius. My niece is very verbal but a real word hasn't come out yet. We're still waiting. I'm very excited. |

| Reflecting on 2004 |
[Dec. 17th, 2004|12:30 pm] |
Things I've done this year:
-Left a job that was stealing my soul -Found a good job with good people that only lasts a year -Was in 2 wedding, and got married in 1 -Had an offer excepted on a house -Got one year older -Became an aunt and a godmother, twice over -Watched family members go in and out of the hospital and saw everyone come out doing fine -Gained lots of frequent flier miles -Started living a new, healthy lifestyle with The Boy -The Boy and I went on our first "grown up" vacation aka Honeymooned in Alaska
Things to do in 2005:
-Close on the house -Continue the healthy lifestyle with The Boy -Join the Pro Club and see Edgar! -Bring The Boy to my elementary stomping grounds and introduce him to extended family and friends -Visit The Boy's Gramps in AZ -Get another year older -Spend spring break with my mom -Decorating -Organizing
In closing, 2004 was a year of new beginnings; a year to establish what it yet to come. Who knows how next year will turn out, but I bet it will be a touch more relaxed and include a bit more time to enjoy the foundation we spent so much of this year building.
I heard a great anecdote yesterday that I would like to take with me over the upcoming years. It went something like this:
A man saw a play in downtown Seattle. As the playhouse was letting out, people started to swarm the streets. People were everywhere, ignoring traffic and walking at will. The man had parked across the street (as many in the playhouse had) and he approached the curb, he noticed the flashing Don't Walk before him, as the mob continued on. As the man began to step off the curb, he felt a tug on his coat. The man looked down to find a little old woman by is side. The woman said to the man, "Are you going to go with the crowd, or are you going to follow the light?"
I hope that I can continue, in future years, to step out of the hustle and bustle of everyday life and follow and trust in the light within me. |

| We're getting a house! |
[Dec. 14th, 2004|04:51 pm] |
|
Not the one previously mentions, but a better one, actually. 1490 square feet in Kirkland on a .16 lot. 3 bed, 1.75 bath. We mutually agreed on an offer today so now get get to have an inspection and an appraisal, so we're almost there. I'm VERY happy. Happy belated birthday to me! |

| The Bid is In |
[Dec. 7th, 2004|02:46 pm] |
|
Yesterday we put in a bid on a house, so now we're waiting. . . and waiting. . . and waiting. Sure, it's only been 24 hours since we put in the offer, but boy does it feel like a long time. So the place is a nice rambler in Kirkland (yay Kirkland!) with 1208 square feet and almost a quarter of an acre of land. Not huge but big enough for the two of us and all of Bill's cars. :o) 3 bed, 1 bath, nice kitchen, living room and family room. *crosses her fingers* |
